New Library System!

Please check this guide frequently for updates and new information!

New Library System

We are excited to announce that as a member of the OhioLINK consortium we will be upgrading its library services platform to Ex Libris Alma/Primo in June 2025. The new enterprise software for academic libraries is used to manage day-to-day operations as well as to help faculty and students find and access the information they need for teaching, learning and research.

OhioLINK and staff at its 115 libraries across the state have been working diligently since June 2023 on this system migration. The project is tracking to plan.

Our campus can expect an improved user experience with a more intuitive interface to find print and electronic articles, books, and other kinds of library materials. As we get closer to “go live” you will see more information about the new system and changes. Check this page for updates. If you have any questions, please email circdesk@rio.edu.

Important Notes

Important notes for the migration:

  • Borrowing: Beginning May 23, 2025, physical items can’t be requested from Davis Library or OhioLINK libraries. Access to our databases and Interlibrary Loan should not be impacted.
  • Checking Permalinks: The old system goes away in June, so you will need to check any permalinks from the old system that are on your website, in your course syllabi, or in your Canvas courses. Library staff will share instructions for how to update permalinks in the new system and will be able to assist with making the updates.
  • New login process: The login to request materials through OhioLINK and to access databases is now your Rio login (the same one you use for email, canvas, and other campus services).

What does this mean for Davis Library patrons?

All library users will need to adapt their library research methods to using the new interface and its functions. Your library account information will transfer to the new system, but there will be a new online interface for viewing your account. The Davis Library website will also update in order to reflect these changes. Although the new system will be fairly easy to use and is user-friendly, library staff are here to help make the transition as smooth as possible.

  • Faculty and staff will need to review any library-related urls or links used in preparing coursework in general, and Canvas course environments specifically. Contact library staff for assistance with any needed updates. Also, any requests for Course Reserves should be submitted asap to ensure availability for the start of fall classes.
  • Students taking classes in Summer 2025 must use the new system. We recommend working with library staff during this time of transition with any questions you may have.
  • Everyone is urged to familiarize themselves with the new system. Tutorials and how-to instructions will be available on this guide soon.
